HPP Development Contractor Job Description

Salary/Wage: Flat stipend of $1,500 for the work outlined below

Total Contract: estimated at 40 hours for total contract

Duration: 3 months (with option to renew)

Start Date: February 2024

Organizational Mission 

Honey Pot Performance (HPP) is a creative Afro-feminist non-profit that has evolved from an organic creative collective into a 501c3 organization. Since 2001, HPP has cultivated an approach to performance integrating movement, theater, and first-voice to examine the nuanced ways people negotiate identity, belonging, and difference in their lives and cultural memberships. We create multiform performance projects, participatory public humanities programming, and act as an incubator for the development of new works by artists of color aligned with our commitment to performance, storytelling, and the Black experience in all its diasporic variation. 


Job Description

Honey Pot Performance seeks a contract grant writer through the end of May 2024. There is a possibility of extension or renewal, to be determined by Honey Pot Performance Executive Leadership by mid-April. 

Priority: This contract pays a flat stipend of $1,500 to write and submit five grant packages inclusive of LOI and full application stages. Examples of potential applications could include granting from entities like: Illinois Arts Council Agency, Crossroads Fund, ComEd Powering the Arts, Fund for Sacred Spaces, and National Endowment for the Arts, etc.

Additional grant applications and reports may arise. Compensation for these will be discussed case-by-case with the Managing Director. This position reports directly to the Managing Director.

Requirements 

  • Relevant experience in grant writing, with particular focus in writing for artists and arts organizations

  • Goal and timeline oriented

  • Comfortable working independently

  • Knowledge of community-based art practices, Chicago Black cultural history, Afro-diasporic culture, and/or theater and performing arts a plus.

Additional Skills

  • CRM and grants database management experience

  • Grant and funding research and cultivation

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of grant cycles and foundations supporting performance arts and arts activations

Additional compensation ($1000) is also available if the contractor has experience with customer relationship management systems (CRM). HPP is looking for support to set up some systems and processes with Bloomerang, our current CRM.
