Remixing Ritual: A Reflection From Norman W. Long

If/Then Creative Process Reflections

The process in which the score was composed by the group made the most impact on me as the guest artist/collaborator. The process reminded me of how Role Playing Games and Sigil Magick operate. This process combined with inspiration from Belkis Ayon’s work and practice of remixing source material of myth, ritual, space/time and personal narrative led me to trust in my own process of performing, listening and soundmaking.

This project intrigued me because of interest I had in art and altars of Afro-American and Afro-Latin cultures as an undergratuate sculpture student. These scores allow me to work with field recordings, synthisizers, sampling and digital sound processing to contribute and reinforce the movement and sound of the group.

I am grateful that I was invited by HPP to contribute to the project and will be looking forward to our next performance in May.
