Chicago Black Social Culture Map: Queer Nightlife & Youth Culture / Northside Edition

Our final installment for 2019 returns to house and nightlife’s queer roots and formations, this time on the North side of the city. Explore the importance of iconic spots like the Belmont Rocks and public events like Black Pride as engines of black, brown, and white queer nightlife at intersection and at odds. Reminisce on the pure pleasure of Medusa’s hybrid youth culture mix and the hole it left when the club closed. Tackle some of the challenging issues of black, brown, and white queer communities all navigating nightlife together in the defined space of Boystown and Belmont.

Co-sponsored by the Chicago Black Social Culture Map, Honey Pot Performance, the Modern Dance Music Archiving Foundation, and the Center on Halsted.
